Digital collection of the scientific library
of the State Museum of Natural History
of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine

In 2023, the Scientific Library of the State Museum of Natural History of the NAS of Ukraine, with the support of the public organization “Danube-Carpathian Programme”, purchased equipment for a scanning station for materials stored in the library's collections. The station includes a book scanner, a laptop and other equipment necessary for digitizing and preserving materials.

This project aims to initiate the process of digitizing the most important old prints and creating a website on the institution's server, with the aim of placing books in free access for all.

The purchased equipment and service will allow, first of all, to reliably preserve and present valuable book editions to a wide range of interested third parties through a website hosted on the museum's server as a separate subdomain lib.smnh.org.

During the project, it is planned to:

1. Digitize the most valuable priority book editions from the Museum's scientific library;
2. Process digital information and place it for free access on the library's website;

A total of 19 books were scanned
Number of pages: 3428
21 diplomas were scanned
1130 cards of the Block Card Catalog, Entomology section, were scanned.
